I.S.S. supports the advancement of the students toward their own individual goals. Whether students intend to pursue training to become full or part-time practitioners, to use Shiatsu as an adjunct to existing skills, or for personal development, the program can be of great benefit. No previous experience is necessary to begin this study. Students need only the desire to grow personally, experience prosperity and help other people. ![]()

The
Facility
The school
is housed in the Landmark Building on the corner of South Clinton
and Court Streets. It occupies 2,400 square feet, has two classrooms,
three treatment rooms, an administrative office and a reception
area which also includes a small store where students may purchase
books, study materials and other bodywork supplies.

I.S.S. supports
the mission, educational standards and ethical guidelines of
the AOBTA (the American Oriental Bodywork Therapy Association).
The AOBTA is a national, professional association which represents
diverse styles of bodywork therapy (including Shiatsu) that shares
the common philosophical background of Oriental Medical Theory.
The AOBTA advocates public policy that promotes and protects
oriental bodywork therapy; initiates appropriate credentialing
criteria, defines practice and educational standards and provides
resources for training and professional development. Due to its
membership requirements, the AOBTA ensures a high level of competence
in its Certified Practitioners.
We encourage our students to become student members of the AOBTA.
Graduates of our programs are eligibles for professional level
memberships.
Affiliated
I.S.S. Schools
The first
affiliated European school was begun as part of the International
Macrobiotics Institute located in Kiental, Switzerland. Some
of the graduates and instructors who had studied with Saul Goodman
then began to set up similar school and curriculum in their home
countries.
Since then, I.S.S. has grown to include teaching centers in Austria,
Italy, Geneva-Switzerland, Belgium, Spain, Portugal and Croatia.
